Justin Bieber and Chris Brown just released their much-anticipated single “Next 2 You” which is off Brown’s upcoming album FAME, out March 22. This is a totally new sound for Biebs, and it seems like Chris took the reigns with this one. The chorus is super inspirational, with the lyrics, “One day when the sky is falling, I’ll be standing right next to you. Right next to you. Nothing will ever come between us. I’ll be standing right next 2 you.” Some are even speculating that the song may be about Rihanna, since in one line the boys sing, “You are the only thing that I got right.” If you listen to the end of the song, there’s even a faint background vocal that sounds a lot like “Oh Na Na,” which is one of the lyrics in RiRi’s hit song “What’s My Name.” Either way, this song is sure to be an instant hit. If you’re a fan of bands like Soundgarden, A Perfect Circle, Incubus, Tool, or even Rush…keep reading. I came across a great band last month when I was at the Green Room here in Plattsburgh, NY. They’re called The Integral and they’re from Montreal, Canada. I had never heard of them before and didn’t know they were going to be playing there that night so I was very pleasantly surprised. I’m pretty finicky with what I like and most bands just don’t do it for me, especially live, but these guys rose to the occasion. The band is a 4-piece (drums, bass, guitar, and vocal); stripped down and organic in their sound but intricate and very melodic in their approach. This was the clincher for me because I’ve always loved punk and hard rock, but appreciate bands that have progressive/technical elements. The Integral have the perfect blend of both. For a band sporting just one axe, they made a lot of noise. The guitar work was fluid and melodic while the bass and drums laid down heavy and authoritative grooves. This afforded their singer the room to really belt out some memorable hooks. I definitely felt their pulse-pounding intensity, which drew roughly 200 strong to the Green Room and kept our rapt attention.

The crowd seemed to love it just as much when they toned down and waded into quieter territory. It’s hard to find bands that can switch things up so effortlessly. Although I wasn’t familiar with their material I found myself enthralled with each song. The Green Room is a cool little place and doesn’t have a stage, so the guys were set-up right on the floor opposite the bar. The patrons were able to get right up close with them and vice versa. The band interacted really well with the audience, and with each other. On several occasions the singer offered the mic to a few enthusiastic onlookers to join in and they happily obliged. Not knowing the lyrics didn’t stop them. All in good fun, and isn’t that what good music is about?

It was that kind of night, 3 sets of polished rock radio sheen made to set fists pumping and hearts beating. After the gig was over I had the chance to talk to the band members while they tore down their gear. They were all very cool and spoke to me in detail about what the band’s been up to. Long story short: they’ve been playing together for nearly 10 years, had a few member changes along the way, and released a few CDs independently. The Integral has shared the stage with several signed acts like Trapt, Dredg, 3, The Ataris, Pulse Ultra and got a slot on the Vans Warped Tour in Montreal a few years back. I love finding Indie bands that not only make great music, but also work really hard at building a solid track record. I wish these guys all the best.

See this band in an intimate club setting. I’m really glad I had the opportunity to do so. They’re planning on doing more gigs in the New England area so if you live around here, don’t miss out. They have played to big crowds in their native Montreal so it’s only a matter of time before they blow up here in the US and can’t be so “under the radar” anymore. Live music band might be just the solution you were looking for when organizing your son’s birthday party. Remembering the catastrophe last year, you know that you have to do something to keep the little monsters busy and tired, and dancing might be the solution.

Kids love having birthday parties. Gifts, clowns, friends, live animals, cakes, they dream of all that from one year to the  next. You, on the other hand, remember only the screaming, spilled juice, dog in the cake, kids in the pool, animals in the living room, clown in your liquor cabinet.  So, this year you decided to get them all, clown included, too busy and tired to get into a mischief.

Inviting a live dance band is getting very popular for kids’ birthday parties and the experienced bands  are armed with  right ammunition. Some kids’ popular songs are, of course, included, but anything that would make them dance works. Kids, as we all know, have endless energy, and unlimited chocolate and cakes at the birthday party do not help. Dancing is great exercise and most of them enjoy it immensely.

If you have a friend who is good animator, or someone in the band is good with kids, you can have everyone dancing Macarena, imitating Travolta, or twisting away. Nothing wrong with giving old country songs a try,  too. If the kids are older and insist on punk rock or something you did not catch up with, good bands are sure to have something in reserve for them too. You are allowed to down a cocktail or two to cope with it.

Outdoor birthday parties are always good idea during the summer, and you can set up the band near the pool or in the corner of the garden, in shade preferably.  Umbrellas, balloons and flower baskets will add to the festive atmosphere. After enough dancing, you might be lucky and the kids will sprawl on the grass to rest or play with the toys, or wrestle with the dog.

We spend a lot of money and effort on our kids’ birthday parties. We look for special venues, decorations, party favors, clowns and puppet masters. Many parents are discovering that the kids are easy: give them a good live music band with a good selection of music, lot of sweets and juices, all of their friends and very discrete chaperons, and they will be happy as bugs without indecent expense.

There is a range of Arizona wedding music band and dance bands in Phoenix. Look for those with experience with kids’ parties, screaming kids throwing teddy bears on the musicians are not everyone’s cup of tea.

Corporate events  and corporate holiday parties are huge in Phoenix, just  as they are in the rest of the world. If you are lucky and are working for a large company that can hire an event planner and bring Celine Dion to entertain the troops, you might end up organizing your company event yourself. You will need some kind  of plan and  starting with hiring a live music band might be just the ticket.
There are all sorts of corporate events: annual conferences, golf outings, retirement parties, Christmas parties, promotional parties, boss’s barbeque, his birthday, his wife’s birthday, the list can go on and on. The idea behind corporate events is to keep the morale of the staff up, provide incentive to employees and allows them to  get to know each other. Like they do not have enough of each other, working together from 9 to 5 every day. Each different type of event requires different approach and, in most cases, they require professional help. For large companies, such events are also an opportunity for promotion, so they get widely publicized, the TV gets invited, celebrities are guests of honor, famous musicians sing or play. They have to be perfect and they are the job for professionals. But, for smaller companies, especially privately owned, the job can be delegated in-house.

If you are the lucky one your boss saddled with organizing the next company party, you know that you have to pull a miracle; otherwise, your job might be on the line. Miracle, in this case, means thinking of any of the million details that go into organizing an event for a large number of people.

Fortunately, you know your office workers and you know that the best way to make them happy is to give them a lot of food and alcohol and to set up a good music band. Years later, when all that should be forgotten, someone sends invitations for a school reunion and everything is forgotten. You go and put your best face and new clothes on and hope that nobody will ask you any embarrassing question or that you will be able to recognize them all.

Live music bands are a must for such events because they create a certain atmosphere and in a way force people to have fun. Good professional live music and dance bands know the right music which was popular during our high school.

Music pulls all of us back in time and reminds us of proms and dances we agonized over or enjoyed or were kissed for the first time.  The musicians know when to step things up a bit with lively dance music if the atmosphere starts getting frosty or just boring. They play old favorites that throw you into the arms of your old flame, and you are instantly transported 20 or 30 years back, until his wife pokes you in the back and takes over on the dance  floor.

School reunions can be fun, if you approach them with the right attitude. Treat yourself with a new outfit, bring our husband with you, or rent your most good looking friend for the night and flirt shamelessly. Or go one step further and do something outrageous: sing with the band, come dressed as hooker or cross-dresser, put a long blond wig and short skirt, or get your husband a Bill Gates mask and make everyone speechless for one moment only.

It helps if the most beautiful girl from your high school is now dowdy housewife with four kids and hips the size of Arizona.

Organizing a successful garden party requires a lot of work and planning. If the party is large and you can afford it, get a professional party organizer. If you enjoy doing it yourself, get ready for a lot of work.

The venue

If you have a new lawn, and do not want it trampled by the guests, make sure there is enough space on the deck for everyone, or limit the number of people you are inviting. Another idea is to have a party indoors and leave the door to the garden open for those who would like to take a stroll. This would solve the problem of where to put the band: placing large speakers in the garden is a challenge.

Weather

If you insist on having your party outdoors, make sure you have enough covered space, or get a tent.  Even the best organizer cannot promise sun and soft breeze to the guest, so the shelter from the elements has to be taken into account.

Garden

Protect your new lawn and keep the foot traffic off it by placing strategic stepping-stones to create a path. Place garden lights along the path and hang Chinese lanterns on the low branches of trees. They provide not only the illumination, but create a great romantic atmosphere. Place several benches along the path as well and create several focal points for your guests.

Food

Keeping it simple is always good advice. For smaller, parties barbeque is great idea, if you have a volunteer to do it. It will do nothing for your dress, hair and makeup to smell like smoke, or, even worse, like hamburgers. Salads, cold cuts, fruit cocktails, fresh vegetables with dips, canapés, deviled eggs, all the old favorites will keep guests full without making food the focus of the whole event.

Drinks

Be imaginative. Instead of traditional cooler fool of beer, get pitchers with sangria or punch, or mix some champagne cocktails. If your party is during the day,  make sure your guests have enough to eat before they start drinking, otherwise you might have some of them in the pool in their clothes, or sleeping behind the azalea bush.

Music
